The Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association hosted its annual holiday party in Brooklyn Heights last Thursday where it held an auction to raise money for charity and collected toys that were donated to victims of domestic violence.

“This is such a great holiday tradition to welcome all of our members to this party,” said Michele Mirman, president of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association (BWBA). “This is going to be our 100th year as an incorporated bar, and I think that so far this was our best turnout ever for our annual holiday party.”

Radio personality Sid Rosenberg was on hand for the event to help with the charity auction. Proceeds will go toward Good Shepherd Services’ Safe at Home project, which helps that victims of domestic violence. The toys from the toy drive were also donated to Safe at Home.

This year, BWBA incorporated something new into the holiday party — a program that they are working on in conjunction with the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS). The program is being led by the BWBA’s own John Coffey.

“We are starting an advice and referral pro bono clinic in conjunction with BKS,” Mirman said. “It is one of the oldest charities in Brooklyn that takes care of six nursery schools for underprivileged children,” she added.

“We expect to offer these families a chance to talk with our volunteer attorneys their legal issues on employment, family law, housing and education. We will give general information, advice and brief services.”
