The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office will be accepting applications starting Nov. 27 for mid-winter and spring internship programs for current high school juniors and seniors living in Brooklyn, officials said.

Selected students will work with assistant district attorneys and other DA staff on legal research and analysis, pretrial matters, case preparation, organizing court documents and file maintenance. They will also be observing criminal proceedings and participating in trial zone workshops, according to the statement from the DA’s Office.

“This internship program will offer hands-on experience into how criminal cases develop, everything from the steps taken to investigate and build a case, to how cases are presented in court,” DA-Elect Eric Gonzalez said.

The first program will run from Feb. 20 to Feb. 23 and the second will be from April 2 to April 6 The hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

While the internship is unpaid, students will receive a MetroCard for travel expenses.

“Interns accepted into the program will not only learn about the criminal justice system and legal careers, but will also develop team-building and leadership skills that will enhance their professional development,” Gonzalez said.

To apply, applicants will need to supply their most recent school transcript, a one-page resume, one letter of recommendation and a 300-word essay on why they are interested in the program.
