Four members and one associate of Coney Island-based street gang, West End Enterprise, were slated to be arraigned Monday afternoon at Brooklyn’s federal court on multiple charges revolving around their alleged gang activity.

The five are variously charged with murder in aid of racketeering, witness tampering, robbery and unlawful use of firearms between 2011 and 2017, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The gang took domain over the Sea Rise Apartments, the Gravesend Houses and Surfside Gardens, also known as the “Mermaid Houses,” on the western end of Coney Island.

Tysheen Cooper, 26, Michael Liburd, 27, and others allegedly dealt drugs and turned the southern Brooklyn streets into scenes of shootouts between rival gang Sex Money Murder.

They are also charged with the Jan. 17, 2016 death of Antwon Flowers, who was allegedly killed in retaliation for the murder of a West End leader.

“People usually think of Coney Island as a fun place to ride the rides, and have a hot dog on the beach,” said FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney in a statement. “The men charged in this case created a dirty underbelly in a family-oriented place, accused of murder, violence and criminal behavior.”

Cooper, Gabriale Herbert, 20, Sharod Liburd, 20, and Maurice Washington, 28, were scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon before Magistrate Judge Lois Bloom.

Michael Liburd was slated for arraignment on Tuesday.
