About 45,000 of the executed were buried in the cemetery in 1937–1953, and Oct. 30 is the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions in Russia.

MEXICO – Day of the Dead: Performers participate in the Day of the Dead parade on Mexico City’s main Reforma Avenue, Saturday. Mexico’s capital is holding its Day of the Dead parade, an idea actually born out of the imagination of a scriptwriter for the James Bond movie “Spectre.”

SOMALIA – Car Bomb: Somali soldiers stand near the wreckage of vehicles in Mogadishu, Somalia, Sunday, after a car bomb detonated Saturday night. A Somali police officer said security forces ended a night-long siege at a Mogadishu hotel by attackers who stormed the building after a suicide car bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the entrance gate. 

KENYA – Opposition Parade: Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga waves to the surrounding crowds of supporters as he drives around the Kawangware slum, after attending a church service there, in Nairobi, Kenya, Sunday. Warning that Kenya is in “grave danger,” Odinga said in an interview with The Associated Press earlier on Sunday that the country’s repeat presidential election was a sham and that a new vote should be held within 90 days. 

BRAZIL – Wildfire in National Park: A wild fire burns in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in Goias state, Brazil, Saturday. Hundreds of men and women have joined forces with firefighters to help control the wildfire that has ravaged more than a quarter of the national park.
