~DE BLASIO TOWN HALL TO HIT BROOKLYN HEIGHTS… AND SOME MAY HIT BACK: Have a question to ask or a bone to pick with the mayor? Residents of Council District 33 are invited to a town hall with Mayor Bill de Blasio at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 at St. Francis College, 180 Remsen St. inBrooklyn Heights. Those who attend will be able to ask the mayor neighborhood-level questions, complain about a situation or alert him to local issues. Hot topics will likely include development (or rather, overdevelopment), crowded schools, transportation and affordable housing, among others. The sale of LICH campus in Cobble Hill to developer Fortis remains a sore point for many residents who supported de Blasio in his initial run for mayor based on his promises to save the hospital. De Blasio is aiming to hold town halls in all 51 Council Districts. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~RESIDENTIAL PRICES UP IN BROWNSTONE BROOKLYN: The average price for Brownstone Brooklyn and North Brooklyn residential property is up16.7 percent from last year, but it could go down soon. A report from the Ideal Properties Group found those areas were at an average of $1.6 million in the third quarter of the year. “The summer and early fall time is always a popular one for real estate transactions,” said Aleksandra Scepanovic, Ideal’s managing director. “We expect the momentum from this quarter to continue through the rest of 2017 and beyond.” But investors see returns may be slowing, especially in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The report found that Park SlopeWilliamsburg and Brooklyn Heights had the most sales respectively.(via Bklyner)

~TODAY IS THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN NOV. 7ELECTION: Brooklynites will be voting for mayor, public advocate, borough president, district attorney and a number of City Council members in the Nov. 7general election, along with deciding issues like whether or not there should be a convention to revise the state Constitution. If you’re not yet registered to vote, however, you’ll have to act fast. The deadline for registering for the Nov. 7 general election is today: Friday, Oct. 13th. You can register online (if you have a driver’s license or non-driver ID card), download the form and register by mail or drop off your application at your County Board of Elections. ~ICE DETAINEE LOSES TOE FROM LACK OF MEDICAL ATTENTION: A Brooklyn man facing deportation had to have his toe amputated, and he’sblaming ICEZbigniew Lutostanski says his infected foot got worse when he was detained at the immigration detention center in New Jersey. “It is going to spread to my bones,” Lutostanski said “Maybe I am going to lose, you know, my leg.” The 66-year-old Polish immigrant was arrested for DWI last November. With a lengthy DWI conviction list, he was nabbed by ICE. He was given a cream for the infection in jail but it didn’t work. “Three of his toes, they looked like they were going to fall off,” said Wendy Austrie of the Legal Aid Society. “It was heartbreaking.” ICE put out a statement saying they provided proper medical treatment. (via NY1)

EAGLE SPORTS: It took just 37 seconds for the New York Islanders to fall behind in the opener of their three-game California road trip Wednesday night in Anaheim. The Downtown Brooklyn-based NHL franchise never recovered from the disastrous opening shift, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Ducks in front of 14,553 fans at Honda Center. “You can’t go down in the first shift,” Isles winger Josh Ho-Sang said after assisting on both of Brock Nelson’s goals in the team’s third loss in four games to kick off this critical 2017-18 campaign. “You don’t want to be behind at any point, but especially early in the game,” he added. “It’s just tough when you’re crawling out of a hole the whole game.”(via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
