This weekend, the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park will play host to Chashama’s 2017 Open Studios event. Chashama, a nonprofit arts organization, has “revitalized over 80 properties, providing invaluable opportunities to more than 15,000 artists” since 1995, according to its website. It continues, “Chashama also brings vibrant artistic programming to audiences of all ages and backgrounds by annually presenting over 130 free, public events to diverse neighborhoods throughout New York City.”

The weekend’s event, sponsored by NYC Economic Development Corporation, features Chashama’s largest subsidized workspace program. It will take place on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. in the Brooklyn Army Terminal’s Building A and Building B.

Spread across two adjacent buildings and situated along Brooklyn’s waterfront, the workspace artists include painters, sculptors, photographers and experimental mixed media artists. In addition to Open Studios, Chashama offers the artists in the Space to Create program curator visits, an online registry, professional development workshops, access to Materials for the Arts and a free online membership with Orangenius, according to a release from the group.
