Following the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 storm that hit Texas late on Friday, August 25 and resulted a in a reported 20 trillion gallons of rain in the Houston area, Brooklyn residents are stepping up to lend a helping hand.

On Tuesday, September 12, Pinot’s Palette, 7518 13th Avenue, will be hosting a fundraiser called ‘Painting it Forward.’ The venue will hold classes with 100 percent of proceeds from attendees going to the Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts. Tickets are $40 per painter. To register, visit www.pinotspalette.com/dykerheights/event/190917.

For those that can’t make the class, but still wish to contribute, paintings created by the artists will be sold for $20 with proceeds also going to help those affected by the hurricane.

“This relief effort is near and dear to my heart as Pinot’s Palette Headquarters is located in Houston and many of our HQ team has been affected with floods, displacement and loss,” said owner of Dyker Heights’ Pinot’s Palette Tatiana Nicoli. “All franchisees have come together to plan a ‘United We Stand’ Paint-It-Forward movement to help relief efforts as much as we can.”

Over in Coney Island, the business community has also launched a relief effort. Local businesses such as Applebee’s Grill & Bar, Coney Island Brewery, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, Gargiulo’s Restaurant, Luna Park, Nathan’s Famous, Paul’s Daughter, and Totonno’s will donate all proceeds raised on Saturday, September 9 to the Greater Houston Community Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

“From experience, we understand people want to help Houston but might not know how,” said Executive Director of the Alliance for Coney Island Alexandra Silversmith. “By simply visiting Coney Island and making a purchase at a Coney Island business, we are enabling anyone to help give back to Houston. While there is still recovery work to be done in Coney, it is because of the overwhelming support from others that we were able to survive and become the Coney Island that you see today. It is in this spirit that we extend our full support to the Greater Houston Region.”

Purchase tickets at www.nycosmos.com.

“The thoughts of the Cosmos organization are with those who have been affected by the devastating flooding in the Houston area,” said New York Cosmos Chief Operating Officer, Erik Stover. “We wish all the victims and responders the best during this time of need.”
