On Saturday, state Sen. Kevin Parker hosted his 14th Annual Harvest Fest Back-to-School Celebration at Paerdegat Park in East Flatbush. The community event was held in partnership with Health First, Capital One, Sesame Flyers International, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Delta Rho Omega Chapter and Spectrum. During the event, Parker distributed more than 1,500 backpacks filled with school supplies to students throughout Central Brooklyn and other parts of New York City.

During the event, families were treated to free food and informational health consultations, according to Parker’s office. The event included live entertainment and cultural art performances by Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy and others. Activities included an outdoor mobile library station where youth were able to broaden their literacy and reading comprehension horizons, compliments of Brooklyn Public Library.

“Being prepared with school supplies is the first step to ensuring academic success, this event helps ensure these students are firmly supported in taking that first step,” said Parker.
