Kids learning how to play golf at the City Parks Junior Golf Center in Dyker Heights got a chance to learn from one of the best on Monday, as PGA pro Daniel Berger came to the center to offer the youngsters useful tips on how to improve their game.

Berger led a golf clinic for children who participate in the City Parks Foundation’s Golf Academy located within the City Parks Junior Golf Center. The center is located on the grounds of the Dyker Beach Golf Course on Cropsey and 14th avenues.

Berger, 24, offered his best tips and took questions from the kids before hitting the green to help them with their golf skills. Berger, who lives in Jupiter, Florida, turned pro at the age of 20. He won the FedEx-St. Jude Classic in 2016 and 2017.

His appearance in Dyker Heights was part of the CityParks Golf program, a project developed in 2000 with assistance from the Lacoste Foundation, a foundation created by the Paris-based Lacoste sportswear company. The Lacoste Foundation is approved and administered by the Fondation de France in Paris. Fondation is the French spelling for foundation.

Berger is an “ambassador” for Lacoste.

Under the CityParks Golf program, kids in underserved communities across the five boroughs are introduced to golf via temporary driving ranges and practice greens in park ball fields. After the introductory program, young participants are then invited to continue to learn at the CityParks Junior Golf Center in Dyker Heights and at the CityParks Junior Golf Center Annex in Queens.

The goal of the Lacoste Foundation is to help young people find their way in life through participation sports like golf and tennis. More than 60,000 kids and teenagers around the world have received support from the foundation since 2006, according to representatives of the foundation.

The City Parks Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization which offers sports, arts and community development and education programs in New York City’s public parks. The organization sponsors events in more than 350 parks, recreation centers and public schools across the city, reaching approximately 425,000 people a year.
