THE LEDE: Good morning, and welcome back! The Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest may be done and dusted for 2017, but it’s never too late to meet local big eaters. Ever wondered “which Brooklyn neighborhood has the most native New Yorkers?” The NYU Furman Center and Brokelyn have the answer. Then, the Brooklyn Bowllooks beyond its namesake, and more Citi Bikes are coming to our borough. Enjoy the short week, Brooklyn!

~MAKE WAY FOR NEW YORK’S LOCAL BIG EATERS: Joey Chestnut of California may have emerged the ten-time champion at this year’s annual Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, but several local eaters gave the contest their best shot. Some of their training practices? Eating four to six pounds of salad for lunch every day, hypnosis to stop a pesky gag reflex, eating to the beat of music and free-for-alls at Chinese buffets. (via NBC News and the WSJ)

~“WHICH BROOKLYN NEIGHBORHOOD HAS THE MOST NATIVE NEW YORKERS?”: The answer is Brownsville. How about the fewest? Sunset Park. That’s according to info from the NYU Furman Center, which is collecting data profiles on every NYC neighborhood. And, FYI, “native New Yorker” in this case means someone born in New York state…even though we all know the true definition is someone born in the five boroughs. (via Brokelyn)

~POP-UP POOL MAKES A SPLASH IN BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK: Summer returned to Brooklyn Bridge Park last week with the reopening of the popular Pop-Up Pool, and dozens of kids and parents wasted no time diving right in…But this swimming season almost didn’t happen. After a determined campaign by Brooklyn families and state Sen. Daniel Squadron, the Pop-Up Pool received a one-year extension after its original five year term expired at the end of last summer. After this summer, the pool may once again be at risk of popping-down, as the city hasn’t committed to extending the pool beyond this season. (via the Brooklyn Daily Eagle)

~HIT-AND-RUN IN BUSHWICK: The slew of cycling deaths and injuries in Brooklyn continues with the hit-and-run death of a cyclist in Bushwickearly Friday morning. The death comes on the heels of a crackdown on cyclists for running stop signs and red lights. (via DNAinfo)

~WHAT’S NEXT FOR BROOKLYN BOWL?: The Williamsburg venue has put on 3,920 shows, had 7,534,652 frames bowled and poured 845,122 pints ofBrooklyn Brewery beer over the years. The NYDN chats with co-owner Charley Ryan about the venue’s origins, the mistakes he made and whereBrooklyn Bowl is heading next (…Nashville?!). (via the NYDN)

~MAP OF THE DAY #1: New Citi Bike stations are coming to Prospect HeightsCrown Heights and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, and the Dept. of Transportation has released a map of exactly where they’ll be installed. (via DNAinfo)
