The Brooklyn Republican Party has voted to endorse Ray Denaro for City Council. Denaro will run in District 47, which covers Bensonhurst, Coney Island, Gravesend and Sea Gate. Denaro will be challenging Democratic incumbent Mark Treyger, who’s held the seat since 2014.

Raimondo “Ray” Denaro was born and raised in Gravesend. “I’ve lived on the same block for all 27 years of my life,” said Denaro, who attended Sts. Simon & Jude Elementary School in Gravesend, St. Edmund Preparatory High School on Ocean Avenue and received his bachelor’s degree in construction engineering technology from CUNY New York City College of Technology.

“Ray Denaro is a wonderful addition to the Kings County Republican Party,” Brooklyn GOP Executive Committee Chairman Ted Ghorra told the Brooklyn Eagle. “We are happy to have endorsed Ray in his bid for public office, and to be supporting his positive community related efforts and, together those of the broader borough of Brooklyn.”

“I’m honored to have the support of the Brooklyn GOP,” said Denaro. “Chairman Ghorra has not only been a phenomenal mentor, he’s been a supportive friend. His confidence in me to be a City Council candidate and have the Republican Party line is incredibly humbling.”
