Bay Ridge buried beneath wintry Stella

Bay Ridge was spared the predicted 12 to 18 inches of snow, but it was still nasty out there on Tuesday morning as a wintry mix of rain, sleet, snow and hail blanketed the area with about 4 to 8 inches of accumulation.

Sanitation Department crews are out trying to clear the streets and homeowners and businesses are attempting, but usually failing, to keep the sidewalks clear. The mix of rain and snow has made it real heavy and people with snow blowers were having a tough time.

Most businesses were closed except for the grocery stores, bagel stores, some restaurants, and a few bars including Kitty Kiernan’s on Third Avenue.
