A soft launch was held Wednesday for the new Target store at 445 Albee Square West at Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn’s bustling new City Point complex. After years of waiting, the store is finally open for business.

City Point is the largest food, shopping and entertainment destination in Downtown Brooklyn. Built by local employees, City Point features a mix of Brooklyn-based shops and restaurants, as well as new destinations like Target.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Public Advocate Letitia James were on hand to officially welcome the new store to the neighborhood and participated in the Jan. 24 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new Target is a flexible-format store, or a smaller store designed for dense areas. It has only one floor and measures approximately 125,000 feet, but has all the departments that Target is known for, such as organic produce and fresh groceries, health and beauty necessities, men’s, women’s, children’s and baby apparel, entertainment and electronics, home products and apparel and accessories from local sports teams.

Adams was anxious to visit the sports department and gladly posed for photos. He told the Brooklyn Eagle that his favorite team was the Nets.

Adams and James both spoke at the event. James encouraged people to come to the mall and shop in Brooklyn.

The new store has 250 employees and also features a Starbucks coffee shop and CVS pharmacy. There are now four Target stores in Brooklyn and the new location is the chain’s first flexible-format store in Brooklyn.
