Viva la Fleet Week.

The U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday, January 18 announced dates for 2017 Fleet Week New York (FWNY).

Now in its 29th year, FWNY is scheduled to take place from May 24 through May 30 of this year. The week-long celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984 and this year’s theme, “Celebrating the Sea Services and commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Seabees,” will pay tribute to members of the Naval Construction Forces who have built and fought for freedom in both peace and war time.

“It’s a great experience being able to be exposed to this welcoming of the ships coming into our port,” US Army Specialist Kerone Hall told this paper last year at Fort Hamilton Army Base’s annual Fleet Week salute. “I’ve never seen anything like this. As a young soldier growing up in the ranks, it shows me the different entities and different parts of the organization that come together for one purpose and that means a lot to me. Doing this is by far one of the greatest experiences I’ve had being in the military.”

An anticipated 5,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate this year.
