PHOTOS: Beyond at Liberty View celebrates official grand opening

It’s beyond Sunset’s customers’ wildest dreams.

After a successful soft opening, Beyond at Liberty View Industrial Plaza at Third Avenue and 31st Street has celebrated its official grand opening. On Thursday, January 12, the ribbon was cut on the awaited unique shopping venue that screams Brooklyn.

The shopping center includes Bed Bath & Beyond, Face Values, buybuy BABY and Cost Plus World Market.

One thing that makes the center unique is the dining area which features tons of local eats. Bay Market Kitchen has already become a favorite among foodies, said its manager. “It’s been amazing so far,” said Courtney Hamilton, general manager of the eatery. “It’s basically American type cuisine, such as hot dogs, hamburgers and sandwiches but it’s on a different level. It’s top quality. Most of what we do is local and Brooklyn based, including the pastries and the desserts. It’s great that we utilize local sources and people love that. It’s great quality as well.”

Those who are in sweet tooth mode can enjoy treats from Sweet & Savory Waffles & Soft Serve, which features unique treats such as the Birthday Cake Waffle, which features a cake batter waffle, whip cream and one free topping, as well as Brooklyn’s Blue Marble ice cream.

“The ice cream is amazing,” said customer Alexis Apostolakos.

The center also features Market Coffee, which touts high end drinks and pastries.

Even at the stores, it’s not all about shopping. Cost Plus World Market — which brings together products from around the globe — offers weekly tastings. “Every Saturday we’ll be doing samplings,” said Michael Johnson, district manager for the store, who was serving up ‘smores on Wednesday evening. “In general, we do a company-driven one, such as a game day tasting of snacks for game day to try to show everyone how we pull entertainment together and make it super simple at home while representing products from all over the world.”

Bed Bath & Beyond also includes a special Born in Brooklyn section, which features designers that are based in Brooklyn. It’s exclusive to this store.

Buybuy BABY creates a safe space with its feeding and changing area for new parents, and Face Values provides a wide range of toiletries, cosmetics and drugstore items.

There are also activities galore planned for the shopping venue. On Sunday, January 15, at 2 p.m. attendees will be able to meet artist David Cortes, the sculptor of the Captain America statue, which is currently housed in the shopping center. If early reactions are any indication, Sunset Park has a huge hits on its hands. “I really like it,” said Dyker resident Mia Soto. “It’s my first time and it’s really beautiful. My favorite so far is the ice cream they serve and Face Values. I’ll probably be here every week.”
