R train service temporarily suspended in Bay Ridge due to police activity at 86th Street

Update (Thursday, January 12): Police have confirmed that the man, a Dyker Heights resident, has died.

Update (2:05 p.m.): The MTA has confirmed that the suspension occurred after a man jumped onto the tracks. Sources at the agency say he is still alive at this time.

Due to heavy police activity at the 86th Street subway station in Bay Ridge, service is temporarily suspended along the R line in both directions between 95th Street and 59th Street.

Some southbound R trains are running on the N line from 59th Street to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue, according to sources though, as an alternative, strap-hangers are urged to take the N line or either the B37 or B63 bus instead.

The MTA has not yet responded to a request for further information, though the R Train NYC Facebook account attributes the activity to an unauthorized person on the tracks.
