Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 308th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1946, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Babies’ Doctor Honored by Hundreds He Saved.”

The article focused on a reception held in honor of Brooklyn pediatrician Dr. Le Grand Kerr, who held office hours at 5 a.m. to treat babies infected with cholera infantum 40 years earlier.

“The occasion was the 30th anniversary of a dinner at the Hotel Bossert, at which parents of Dr. Kerr’s little patients presented him with a bronze statue of ‘Winged Victory’ by Barrius, French sculptor,” the Eagle reported. “The statue still stands in the doctor’s reception room with an engraved plate reading, ‘Le Grand Kerr, M.D., whose masterful skill has been life and health to our children – presented by grateful parents, November 1, 1916.’”
