HAITI — Community Struggles to Attain Water: Boys whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Matthew carry a hose from a water tanker truck after helping to replenish a 5,000-liter bladder that is being filled daily by the water company, at Philippe Guerrier High School in Les Cayes on Monday. With no connector to attach the hose to the bladder, boys sitting atop the bladder hold the hose in place with their hands, partially submerged in the drinking water, as the bladder fills.

IOWA — Endangered Species Gains New Member: An unnamed newborn eastern black rhinoceros walks behind it’s mother, Ayana, on Monday at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines. The endangered eastern black rhino mother gave birth to the female, 80-pound calf on Oct. 11, and is likely the first endangered rhino born in the state of Iowa, according zoo officials. “This is an extremely significant event — not only in Blank Park Zoo’s 50-year history, but also for this critically endangered animal species,” zoo CEO Mark Vukovich said.

GREECE — Man Carries Flag at Rally: A supporter of the communist-affiliated union PAME takes part in an anti-austerity rally in front of the parliament in Athens on Monday. Thousands of workers protested austerity measures including changes in labor laws, reinstating collective bargaining agreements and increasing the amounts of the slashed minimum wage and pensions.
