Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 285th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1903, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Beaten by Gang of Thugs: Young Man Frightfully Abused Because He Refused to Buy Drinks for Ruffians.”

The article focused on a man who was attacked at a saloon in Brownsville.

“Officer Hock of the Brownsville precinct saw Netti staggering along Belmont Avenue and at first thought the man was intoxicated,” the Eagle reported. “Coming near to him he saw the man was bleeding profusely from a wound over the left eye and numerous cuts about the head. Dr. Moses of the Bradford Street Hospital was summoned and dressed Netti’s wounds, after which he was taken to his home.”
