The summer is winding down, and that means that Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars are returning to the Brooklyn Bar Association (BBA).

Two CLE seminars have been scheduled by the BBA’s CLE Director Amber Evans for the month of September, including one on Sept. 13, titled “The Blueprint for Addressing Liens,” which will be co-sponsored by the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. The second will be Wednesday, Sept. 23, and is titled “Taking the Fear Out of eDiscovery.” Both will take place at the bar association building on Remsen Street at 6 p.m.

“The Blueprint for Addressing Liens” will be hosted by Paul Loudenslager and Steven Smith of Precision Resolution and Frank Kilcoyne of JMW Settlements.

The group will cover Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA and other lien issues that have become the preeminent factors that cause delays in receipt of settlement funds. The two-hour CLE seminar will be good for two credits in the area of professional practice.

“Taking the Fear out of eDiscovery” will be hosted by a pair from RVM Enterprises, a provider of eDiscovery services in Manhattan — Talia T. Page, a training specialist, and Tim McCorry, a computer forensic engineer.

This session is geared toward attorneys from small- and medium-sized firms who need to familiarize themselves with the concepts and terminology involved with eDiscovery. The seminar is slated to include a discussion of the process of collecting electronic evidence while maintaining a strict chain of custody and the importance of metadata. The presentation will also cover cost-saving techniques.

Plans are also being finalized for the BBA’s “annual update,” a marathon eight-hour CLE session worth eight credits that is co-sponsored by the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. The marathon session will be held on Friday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Further details will be announced in upcoming weeks.

Visit the Brooklyn Bar Association’s website at www.brooklynbar.org for more information on these and other upcoming CLE events sponsored by the BBA.
