To those who have faced ovarian cancer, the color teal has a lot of meaning.

It is also the name of the non-profit group behind this Thursday’s Parachute Jump lighting in Coney Island.

On September 1 at sundown, an organization called the Tell Every Amazing Lady About Ovarian Cancer Louisa M. McGregor Ovarian Cancer Foundation — or, T.E.A.L. for short — will meet at 1000 Surf Avenue to help light the neighborhood’s historic Parachute Jump teal to mark the start of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

“September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and we’re kicking off the month by lighting the the Luna Park Parachute Jump teal to recognizee this important women’s health issue,” said T.E.A.L. CEO and Co-Founder Pamela Esposito-Amery.

Esposito-Amery and her sister, the late Louisa M. McGregor, co-founded T.E.A.L. in 2009 in hopes of promoting public awareness of ovarian cancer, raising funds for research, and supporting women affected by the disease.

“T.E.A.L. is also hosting many other awareness events and activities throughout the borough of Brooklyn all month long,” she added.
