Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 231st day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN  1920, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Thompson Hangs Up New World’s Record in Olympic Hurdles.”

The article focused on a Dartmouth College runner who was competing for the Canadian team in the Olympic Games at Belgium.

“Earl Thompson … today won the final heat of the 110-meter hurdles, hanging up a new world’s record of 14 4-5 seconds,” the Eagle reported. “H.E. Barron of the Meadowbrook Club, Philadelphia, was second, and Fred S. Murray of the New York A.C. third … The old record for the event, both Olympic and world’s, was 15 seconds flat.”
