On Saturday, Aug. 13, an exciting new event featuring an old Brooklyn favorite will take place in Coney Island. The Brooklyn Stickball Challenge hopes to become an annual event in which Brooklyn will challenge a different borough or stickball team to a best of five game/series for stickball bragging rights.

Carlos Diaz, president of the Stickball Hall of Fame; filmmaker Jay Cusato, director of the award-winning stickball documentary “When Broomsticks Were King;” Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park and Chuck Reichenthal have collaborated on Saturday’s event to celebrate and help promote the game of stickball in Brooklyn.

This year, the Brooklyn Stickball Team, sponsored by Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park, will challenge the Harlem Stickball Team to a best of five series. The game takes place on West 12th Street between Surf Avenue and the Boardwalk.
