As one business says ciao, another says hola.

Opening its doors tonight at 4 p.m., the brand new Lobo Loco Mexican Cantina – occupying the space most recently held by Zitelli’s at 8530 Third Avenue – is bringing a festive new style to a cornerstone that, for years, has been home to predominantly Italian cuisine.

“We wanted to do something different for the neighborhood,” said Mario Abitino, co-owner of Lobo Loco alongside family members Sal and Domenico Abitino. “Everything around here is the same and you have so many Italian restaurants, we wanted to do something else.”

The family – who also owned Zitelli’s – decided to run with the change of pace in the beginning of June and turned out the ornately decorated space in just eight weeks.

Complete with festive decor, over 25 different types of tequila, bright colors and murals hand painted by local artists, Lobo Loco, which in Spanish means “crazy wolf,” plans to pack a punch with its plentiful menu and weekend brunch specials.

“We have tacos, we have enchiladas, burritos, chimichangas, we’ve got everything,” said Mario. “We’ve got over 25 different tequilas and an unlimited brunch special.”

With all of their food made in-house and deals like their $19.99 bottomless brunch – which includes mimosas and “Lobo Punch” – Lobo Loco is sure to be one big fiesta in Bay Ridge.

Lobo Loco will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the week and will open at 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, with brunch running until 3 p.m. and late-night hours, DJ included.
