Residents should take advantage of the opportunity to question a top city official at a town hall meeting in Coney Island this week, according to a Brooklyn lawmaker who said she is also looking forward to the session as a way to learn more about the public’s concerns.

Assemblymember Pamela Harris (D-Coney Island-Dyker Heights-Bay Ridge) is urging residents to attend a town hall hosted by City Comptroller Scott Stringer on Thursday, Aug. 4, at the New York Aquarium’s Education Hall on Surf Avenue and West 8th Street. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Harris, a freshman lawmaker who is one of several elected officials working in partnership with Stringer to present the town hall, predicted that it will be a valuable evening not just for residents but also for the lawmakers.

“By meeting with residents in our neighborhoods all throughout the city, we can hear firsthand from the people about the issues that are affecting them on a daily basis,” Harris told the Brooklyn Eagle in an email. “It is a great chance to have an open dialogue with city officials so we can all work together to make progress and strengthen our neighborhoods.”

The town hall, which Stringer is hosting in partnership with U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, state Sen. Diane Savino, Harris and Councilmembers Chaim Deutsch and Mark Treyger, will focus on issues of concern to residents of Southern Brooklyn, according to a press release issued by the comptroller’s office.

“From Bensonhurst to Coney Island, Bay Ridge and Brighton Beach, we want to hear what’s on your mind,” Stringer said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working together to create real solutions for our city, and I want New Yorkers in Southern Brooklyn to know that my office is here to help.”

Stringer will also discuss ways to improve city services and explain how the comptroller’s office can help New Yorkers.

To RSVP for the town hall, email [email protected] or call the comptroller’s office at 212-669- 3916.
