The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is investigating to determine the cause of a partial street collapse on 79th Street in Bay Ridge that left a large hole in the middle of the roadway on Tuesday.

No one was injured.

The sinkhole is located near Fourth Avenue.

On Wednesday morning, when the Brooklyn Eagle visited the spot, the 6-foot-wide, 6-foot-deep crater was still there. Emergency crews had placed yellow police tape around the section of the street to prevent pedestrians from wandering into the sink hole. A car parked cattycorner at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and 79th Street prevented motorists from driving down the block.

Tuesday’s incident wasn’t the first time Bay Ridge has had to deal with a sink hole.

CBS 2 reported that a large hole developed on the same block, 79th Street between Third and Fourth avenues, on July 22.

Back in March, another sinkhole was discovered, this time on 79th Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues.

The largest sinkhole in years developed on 92nd Street near Fourth Avenue in June of 2012. That crater was 60 feet deep and took several months to repair.
