Brooklyn junkyard fire blackens sky over East Flatbush / Canarsie

The sky over East Flatbush / Canarsie filled with thick black smoke at roughly 5 p.m. Wednesday as a fire broke out in a junkyard at Preston Court to Ralph Ave., 1511 Preston Court, not far from King’s Highway.

Approximately 12 units with 60 firefighters fought the blaze, according to FDNY. 

“We expect it to be a prolonged operation,” an FDNY spokesperson told the Brooklyn Eagle as the smoke appeared to be dying down at 5:50 p.m.

There were no injuries, the spokesperson said.

According to CBS, a mulch pile caught fire and spread to cars and a truck.

The city is warning nearby residents to close their windows.
