In an effort to help their hardworking constituents relax and unwind, two Bay Ridge lawmakers are sponsoring free yoga lessons in Shore Road Park this summer.

Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakis and state Sen. Marty Golden are hosting a series of Yoga in the Park events in partnership with 5 Boro Power Yoga, Yoga in Bay Ridge, Bikram Yoga, Shanti Family Yoga and yoga instructor Cathy Dews.

The yoga sessions began June 3 and will continue until Sept. 12.

The classes are held in Shore Road Park near the entrance on Shore Road and 79th Street and Shore Road.

The schedule is as follows: Tuesday, June 21, at 7 p.m.; Thursday, July 7, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 16, at 9 a.m.; Monday, July 25, at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m.; Saturday, Aug. 13, at 9 a.m.; Monday Aug. 22, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. and Monday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m.

Malliotakis (R-C-Bay Ridge-Staten Island), who has been practicing yoga for several years, said she is looking forward to another season of outdoor lessons. She and Golden have sponsored yoga lessons in Shore Road Park in the past.

“It’s the perfect setting for a great activity that benefits the mind and body. It’s always a good time and the turnout seems to increase every year. I encourage everyone to come out and join us!” she said.

Golden, who said that yoga “has proven to be so valuable to one’s mind and body,” added that the practice has numerous health benefits.

“All who participate in yoga are giving themselves many advantages including building muscle strength, reducing blood pressure, lowering blood sugar levels, ability to be more focused and releasing tension in limbs. So mark your calendar, get your towel and yoga mat, and head to Shore Road,” Golden said.

For more information, call Malliotakis’s office at 718-987-0197 or Golden’s office at 718-238-6044.

The outdoor classes are subject to weather conditions.
