June 8, birthdays for Kanye West, Julianna Margulies, Jerry Stiller
Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 160th day of the year.
ON THIS DAY IN 1906, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Hint of Scandal in Bridge Bids.”
The article focused on delays in the construction of the Manhattan Bridge due to investigations into the construction company with the lowest bid.
“The latest hold-up is one of the most interesting of all that have been tried on this unfortunate bridge,” the Eagle reported. “Detectives figure in this case, and the contractors, through their lawyer, hint darkly at contracts being ‘cut out’ for certain people, not the lowest bidders.”
