David Peña, who will graduate from Xaverian High School next month, won’t have to worry about how he is going to pay his college tuition. His tuition will be paid for in full.

He has been named to the Thomas G. Labrecque Smart Start Program by JPMorgan Chase. The prestigious program provides a full tuition scholarship, a stipend for books and supplies and a paid internship at the bank. JP Morgan Chase admits only 10 students a year into the program.

The program is named in memory of Thomas G. Labrecque (1938-2000), who served as president of JP Morgan Chase from 1981 to 1999.

Peña, who plans to study international business and international relations, will enroll at New York University in the fall. He also received acceptance letters and scholarship offers from Georgetown University, Colgate University, Fordham University, Claremont McKenna College and Franklin & Marshall College.

During his time at Xaverian, Peña has been a member of the soccer team, the Mock Trial program, the music program, the Dramatics Society and the school’s Belgium Exchange Program. He has also been involved with the school’s Campus Ministry Service and the Clipper Society, a student ambassador program in which members work very closely with the admissions and alumni offices to promote the school.

“I have the deepest gratitude to the teachers who educated me and taught me to become a better man. They motivated and inspired me to reach for the dreams that are now my reality,” Peña said in a statement.

Xaverian High School, a Catholic school, is located at 7100 Shore Road in Bay Ridge. The high school, formerly an all-boys school, is going co-ed in September.

“Xaverian has also played a huge role in the development of my faith, as I was always encouraged to trust in God’s plan for me. I truly believe that God will work through me by developing my gifts so I can do my part to better the world,” Peña said.
