Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 130th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1922, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “City to Deny Fund of $415,000 to Buy 425 Vote Machines.”

The article focused on the city Board of Estimate rejecting an appropriation for the Board of Elections to buy vote machines.

“In that event the voting machines, as the law directs, will be purchased by the Secretary of State at the expense of the city,” the Eagle reported. “But the bill, it is said, will not be paid while the Hylan administration is in power, if it can be helped. That is to say, the legality of the purchase will be contested in the courts by the Corporation Counsel.”
