Bay Ridge residents Ray and Joanna Riley, who are expecting their first child later this year, did what many young couples do these days: They used social media to communicate their joyful news to the world.

But the Rileys, who have been happily married for 2 1/2 years, also used their creativity and a playful sense of humor to get their happy message across to everyone.

They posted a photo on Facebook on April 13 that is still bringing smiles to their friends’ faces.

In the photo, the Rileys are sitting up in bed. Ray is reading “The Expectant Father” and is looking at his wife with an expression on his face that is a cross between curiosity and concern. Joanna, meanwhile, is shoving a cookie into her mouth and has an assortment of Lay’s Potato Chips, Entenmann’s cakes, Pepperidge Farm cookies, Gummy Bears and other sweet treats spread out in front of her on the bed to satisfy any craving she might have during her pregnancy.

Ray, an events coordinator at Maimonides Medical Center, said the photo was his wife’s idea.”The picture is all Joanna,” he told the Brooklyn Eagle.

Joanna Riley is a special education teacher. Many residents of Bay Ridge remember Ray from his days working for state Sen. Marty Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-Southwest Brooklyn), for whom he served as a community representative.

Once Joanna came up with the comical idea for the photo, it was up to Ray to executive the plan.

After carefully setting up the shot, “I took the photo with a delay on my phone,” he said.

The reaction they got from Facebook friends was instantaneous. Hundreds of friends posted congratulatory comments on Ray’s and Joanna’s pages.

One friend wrote, “In solidarity for your impending bundle of joy, and the crazy late night food cravings I will eat Spumoni from the container!”

Another friend, Justin Brannan, offered up a possible career change for the Rileys. “I’m ready to pitch the sitcom pilot. Lemme (sic) know,” he wrote.
