ALASKA — Volcano Erupts: Pavlof Volcano, one of the state’s most active volcanoes, erupts on Sunday, sending a plume of volcanic ash into the air. Pavlof Volcano is 625 miles southwest of Anchorage on the Alaska Peninsula, the finger of land that sticks out from the mainland toward the Aleutian Islands.
