The members of the Catholic Lawyers Guild (CLG), Diocese of Brooklyn gathered Wednesday for a celebration of St. Patrick and St. Joseph at Marco Polo Restaurant in Carroll Gardens.

“We want to get everyone together, the people who believe in St. Patrick [and those who believe in] St. Joseph. [We’re] sharing our heritages, sharing music, sharing history,” said CLG President Hon. Lizette Colon.

The event is a relatively new tradition started by past President Sara Gozo, who wanted to organize a celebration focusing on the group’s two main factions — the Irish Catholics and the Italian Catholics.

“Our past President Sara Gozo thought it would be an interesting event to bring both St. Patrick and St. Joseph together because it would unite the Irish Catholics and the Italian Catholics within this organization,” said past President Joseph Rosato. “Each year, we’ve done a different type of musical event or entertainment [event]. This year, we’re back again, and current President Lizette Colon has decided to continue this wonderful tradition.”

The event did not include speeches or awards; it was simply a meeting of the group’s members over a shared dinner. There was music, dancing and singing. Past President Stephen Smith sang some classic Irish songs and Justice James G. Starkey belted out a few tunes of his own.
