Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 69th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1934, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Autotruck Big Enough to Move Elephant Is Too Big for Park Gate.”

The article focused on a female elephant being transported out of the Central Park Zoo to Prospect Park.

“On Wednesday morning they had tried to transfer Chang from Manhattan to Brooklyn and a five-ton truck was actually backed up against the old elephant house, but in vain,” the Eagle reported. “Everybody concerned, with the possible exception of Chang [the elephant], who merely looked on, decided that the van would be too small.”
