Police said a 20 year-old man was shot in the buttox in front of the Weeksville housing project, at 1575 Dean Street near Troy Avenue in Crown Heights at approximately 2:47 p.m. on Wednesday.

The victim was transported by EMS to Kings County Hospital in “not likely to die” condition, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

The shooting took place in the 77th Precinct across the street from P.S. 243, an elementary school, and the Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School, which serves grades 6 to 12.

The incident was non-school related, a school source said. For the safety and security of students and staff, however, P.S. 243 was placed on a brief shelter.

There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing, according to the NYPD.

This is the sixth shooting in the 77th Precinct so far this year, according to NYPD’s CompStat. Three of the shootings were within two or three blocks of Wednesday’s incident.

In 2013, two women – one a teacher and one a passer-by — were shot with a pellet gun at the same location as Wednesday’s shooting, according to the Daily News.
