There’s been a changing of the guard.

Captain Raymond Festino, who had been commanding officer of the 68th Precinct since Monday, April 14, 2014, has been moved by the New York Police Department to a new post, heading up the detective squad for Brooklyn South.

Taking his place at the helm of the 68th Precinct is Captain Joseph Hayward, who was serving as executive officer of the 60th Precinct in Coney Island.

Hayward also did a stint as executive officer at the 68th Precinct, back in 2013, spending seven months at the command under Deputy Inspector Richard DiBlasio, then the precinct’s commanding officer, whom Festino had replaced.

“I’m just happy to be here,” noted Hayward. “I loved working here. A lot of the community is very positive, and I look forward to reducing crime.”

The move took effect at midnight, Tuesday, March 1.
