Love was in the—very cold—air on Friday, February 12 as community members turned out to show the 62nd Precinct of the New York City Police Department some love.

Placing handmade cutout hearts and ribbons throughout the precinct, according to community activist Sonia Valentin,  was a way for locals to show their appreciation for the Police Department and the work its members do.

“Members of the Bensonhurst and Bath Beach community showed up in the cold and adorned the doors, and inside of the 62nd Precinct,” said Valentin. “By posting handmade red heart cutouts and ribbons, [we showed] our appreciation, love and respect for the police officers.

“Many officers were delighted [and] smiled while entering and leaving the building to see residents happily taping up symbols of love to honor them,” she said.
