ATHENS — Nation Strikes: Members of the PAME Communist-affiliate protest during a 24-hour nationwide general strike on Thursday. Unions called the strike to protest pension reforms that are part of the country’s third international bailout. The left-led government is trying to overhaul the country’s ailing pension system by increasing social security contributions to avoid pension cuts, but critics say the reforms will lead many to lose two-thirds of their income to contributions and taxes.

PENNSYLVANIA — Blaze Takes Over Hotel: Firefighters battle a blaze at The Blakeslee Inn & Restaurant on Route 940 in Tobyhanna on Wednesday. Crews from Monroe, Carbon, Lackawanna and Luzerne counties were called to fight the fire.
