Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 33rd day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1922, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Still Explodes, Blows Out 3 Walls of House; Burns Man.”

The article focused on an explosion in Coney Island that shook an entire block.

“The firemen found a still on the top floor of the building with three large copper boilers, one of which had a capacity of 80 gallons and the other two 40 gallons each,” the Eagle reported. “There were 200 bottles of homemade whisky and 1,000 empty bottles in one of the rooms.”
