Saint Patrick’s Day is right around the corner and, keeping with tradition, the Bay Ridge Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee debuted this year’s marshals at a meet and greet, held on Sunday, January 31 at the Greenhouse Café, 7717 Third Avenue.

“[The meet and greet] was fantastic,” said parade President Frankie Marra. “It’s always a nice affair where we get to introduce our honorees and really start getting excited.”

James McHugh, senior vice president of Signature Bank and former chairperson of the board of directors at St. Anselm Catholic Academy, will lead the neighborhood parade – now in its 23rd year – as grand marshal on Sunday, March 20.

Beside him will be deputy marshals Brian Kelly, Maura Coughlin, Kathy Burke, Patrick Harkin, Peter Whelan, Rita Galvin, Rhea McCone and the Canny Brothers Band.

According to Marra, while there is never a shortage of excellent people to choose from, this year’s roster is special.

“We’re so lucky in this community because we have a large slate to draw from of people who are just really involved in the community, and who really exemplify what Saint Patrick was about,” he said. “But, we always have an emphasis on education, so having James McHugh as the grand marshal is really special.”

In addition, Marra said, all of this year’s honorees have been involved in education.

“It’s just such a great slate of honorees,” he said.

This year’s parade will kick off at the corner of Marine and Third Avenues, running down the strip towards 67th Street.
