The rumors of a Banana Republic store coming to 86th street’s bustling corridor have been swirling. The question on everyone’s mind–where will it go?

According to more than one source, the clothing retailer will be taking up residence at the shuttered Fabco Shoes location (422 86th Street) in the form of a Banana Republic Factory Outlet.

While calls and e-mails to Gap Inc. — the parent company to brands like Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta and Intermix — went unanswered, this paper has learned that the outlet store is slated for the Fabco space.

The building, originally constructed in 1921, houses three stories which are classified as “mixed residential and commercial use,” according to city zoning. The building, which sits on a 4,000-square-foot lot, has an estimated gross floor area of 10,400 square feet.

This will be Brooklyn’s second Banana Republic Factory Outlet, with the first located at 485 Fulton Street, and the second Gap Inc. store on the street, A Gap Factory Outlet sits directly across the street from the alleged Banana Republic location.

Zelnik and Company LLC, the real estate firm who listed the property, declined to comment.
