The occasion was marked with a ribbon cutting and “opening fiesta” outside the new spot, 8511 Third Avenue.

Cocoa Grinder isn’t just a place, it’s an idea.

An idea conceived in 2013 by a college student who always knew his generation had more to offer than going to school for four years and finding a 9-5 job. An idea that we have to work hard, but keep a healthy amount of sweetness in the mix.

Cocoa Grinder is a health-conscious place to grab a bite to eat or a fresh-squeezed juice. A place to recharge, revitalize, rejuvenate yourself to take on the day, a place for young adults to work, eat, think. And that’s why those who work here are mostly ambitious high school students.

Cocoa Grinder is like yin and yang; it’s finding and fueling the balance of work and play. It’s a synthesis of the yin — the cocoa-like sweetness, the comforts and relaxations in life — and the yang — the grind, the hard work and pursuit of ambition. And where else to have this than in New York, the capital of the daily grind?

It’s about exploring the yang but remembering the sweet yin that keeps the fire going. Never forgetting about what’s really important in life, believing in and pursuing your passions, and savoring the sweet things and people that helped you get there.
