Brownsville man one of nine busted for Brooklyn-Queens heroin ring

Officials announced on Monday, December 21 that nine defendants have been variously charged in a 281-count indictment for operating a “lucrative” heroin distribution ring across Brooklyn and Queens as well as Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

District Attorney Ken Thompson identified the ringleader as 27-year-old Queens resident Mohamed Chaaibi, who is alleged to have supplied the heroin and coordinated all deals by taking calls from buyers and sending couriers to prearranged spots where sales were to be made.

According to officials, one of Chaaibi’s runners included 30-year-old Miguel Alcaide of Brownsville.

“There’s a growing heroin epidemic spreading throughout our city and country that’s destroying lives and families,” said District Attorney Ken Thompson. “This is the second heroin distribution operation that we dismantled in recent months and we intend to continue to do our part to save lives by taking down anyone who deals heroin in Brooklyn.”

The ring is said to have sold a single “brand” of heroin, called “two way,” and used custom-made stickers to identify it on the glassines it distributed.
