The Fire Department is investigating to determine the cause of a deadly Bay Ridge fire that killed an elderly woman early Tuesday morning.

The fire erupted at 434 79th St., a three-story apartment building, at around 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

A 93-year-old woman was found in a third floor apartment and was rushed to NYU Lutheran Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim pending notification of her family. The New York Daily News reported that the woman had suffered cardiac arrest.

The fire appeared to have erupted in the third floor apartment. Within minutes, the FDNY declared the blaze to be an “all-hands” fire, the most serious type of one-alarm fire. More than 60 firefighters were on hand to battle the smoke and flames.

The fire was declared under control an hour after it started.

There were no other injuries reported.
