Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 356th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1952, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “5 Die as Rain Gives Winter Glum Debut.”

The article focused on a pre-Christmas rain that fell for 35 hours straight, causing automobile accidents that left five dead and dozens injured.

“Low visibility and the pelting of rain made driving difficult … Grounding of many planes at Idlewild and LaGuardia Airports interfered with the plans of many travelers who had hoped to spend Christmas day with their families,” the Eagle reported. “It was a miserable first day for Winter.”
