The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) has a new president and some innovative ideas for serving Northern Brooklyn to boot.

The newly appointed President and CEO, Gary Terrinoni, plans to take the neighborhood hospital, which has served the neighborhood since 1845, and turn it up a notch.

“I am delighted to be returning to New York City, to serve as president of the Brooklyn Hospital Center,” said Terrinoni, who served as executive vice president of administration (COO) and chief financial officer at Kennedy Health System in New Jersey. “It is a great honor to join the staff of this innovative hospital and to be a part of its mission to improve access to high-quality, local care where it is most needed.”

The new prez, who has been at the hospital since November, plans to focus on the development of a clinically integrated ambulatory strategy (including a focus on primary care and other health services) while continuing TBHC’s focus on clinical quality, making for the best patient experience possible, according to the Brooklyn Hospital Foundation.

“We are very pleased to have a hospital executive of Gary Terrinoni’s stature and experience take the helm of the Brooklyn Hospital Center,” said Carlos Naudon, chair of TBHC’s Board of Trustees. “Mr. Terrinoni is a strong leader who will help our hospital further expand its award-winning care of the Brooklyn community.”

This paper got an inside look at some of the hospital’s key hubs, when publishers Victoria and Joshua Schneps took a tour, one of the ways that Terrinoni has been working to acquaint community leaders, officials and other potential local influencers with everything the hospital — located at 121 Dekalb Avenue in Fort Greene — has to offer .

“We went up to our neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric intensive care unit, the critical care unit and then radiology and the information technology center,” explained Missy Sirola, the Brooklyn Hospital Foundation’s development manager. “[We wanted] to give Vicky and Josh an overview of the hospital, the demographics that we serve and how we are doing our best to be an innovative provider of care to all of Northern Brooklyn.”
