Cops say an off-duty police officer was slashed in the chest with a knife after trying to break up a domestic dispute on Friday, December 11.

A police source told this paper that, early Friday afternoon, the officer observed a man physically assaulting a woman in broad daylight near 69th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway.

It was then, the source said, that the cop intervened. But, as he reached for his phone to dial 911, the man allegedly told him, “If you call 911, I’m going to stab you.”

According to the source, the cop then ran across the street but, before he could enter a nearby barbershop, the perp slashed him in the chest. The two then made their way into the hairdresser’s where, before the perp could stab the officer, someone inside the business kicked the knife out of his hand.

Those inside the barbershop dialed 911.

The officer was transported to NYU Lutheran Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

“It’s nothing serious, just a slight puncture wound to the chest,” said the source.

The perp – described only by cops as a 26-year-old man – has since been arrested and is currently in police custody.
