68th Precinct Police Beat: Woman duped out of $3,800 by perp claiming to be from IRS

Between Friday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 24, the 68th Precinct received reports of three burglaries and one grand larceny. The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton.

DUPED

According to police, a 23-year-old Native American woman sent $3,800 to scammers after receiving a phone call from an unknown person stating that he was from the IRS on Monday, November 23 at approximately 12:25 p.m. The unknown perp claimed that she owed the money to the government and that if she didn’t pay immediately, the cops would arrest her. The victim claimed she was so afraid, she wired the money to the perp.

10 GRAND GONE

A total of $10,000 was stolen from a dresser drawer in an apartment near Fourth Avenue and 68th Street, sometime between Tuesday, November 10 and Monday, November 23, according to police, who say that the unknown perp broke into the 34-year-old Asian woman’s home  through the bedroom window.

RESTAURANT CROOKS

Smashing the lock on a side door, unknown perps broke into a restaurant near 83rd Street and Third Avenue between Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24. The unknown suspects looted the bar area on the main floor before heading to the basement, where they broke the office door open and ransacked the room, stealing $200 and a cash register, according to police.

PARTY’S OVER

Cops report that two unknown perps broke into a night club near 82nd Street and Third Avenue in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 24 through a side window, helping themselves to $150 from the cash register and approximately $900 worth of alcohol, according to an employee, a 39-year-old man, who was the first to discover the break-in.

GOLDEN TIMING

Gold watches and rings worth approximately $4,300 were filched from an apartment near 97th Street and Shore Road, sometime between Friday, November 20 and Tuesday November, 24. Cops say that the unknown perp gained access to the apartment of the victim, a 44-year-old white man, through the bedroom window.
