Citizens Committee to award $1.6 million to nabe-based volunteer groups
Grassroots group Citizens Committee of New York announced on Tuesday, November 24 that it would award over $1.6 million through its Neighborhood Grants program to more than 500 neighborhood-based volunteer groups across the five boroughs.
Through the program, Citizens Committee awards micro-grants of $500 to $3,000 to various volunteer groups – which do not need to be registered nonprofits – to work on community and school improvement projects. In fact, neighbors forming a volunteer group for the first time are especially encouraged to contact Citizens Committee directly to learn more and apply for their first-ever grant.
“Every day New Yorkers from Wakefield to Stapleton, from Bedford-Stuyvesant to Flushing, and everywhere in between should join together with their neighbors and apply for a grant to improve their neighborhoods,” said Peter Kostmayer, CEO of Citizens Committee. “Whether the neighborhood needs more greenery, access to fresh foods, after-school projects for kids, or any other improvement to quality-of-life, I encourage New Yorkers who want to engage their neighbors and help improve their corner of the city to apply for our one-of-a-kind Neighborhood Grant.”
